Dale Gammie used a strong first-round showing to finish in a tie for fourth after the first day of the BYU-Dixie Classic at the Estrada Golf Course. Behind Gammie, Hawaii stands in ninth place with a total of 640 following a first-round 322 and second-round 318.
Gammie, a native of Pukalani, Maui, was one of just four golfers to shoot under par in the first round with a one-under 71. She followed with a second-round 76 to finish at 147 (+3), five strokes off the pace. Also participating for the Rainbow Wahine are freshman Sarah Odelius (154, +10), sophomore Brooke Jackson (167, +23), sophomore Kari Sur (172, +27) and senior Megan McGuinness (187, +43).
UNLV leads the 14-team field with a score of 587 and holds a comfortable 15-stroke lead over San Francisco. The Rebel's Sunny Oh is the individual leader at two-under 142, four strokes ahead of teammate Seema Sedekar and San Diego State's Heather MacRae.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final 18 holes.
