WAIPAHU - After rain forced the postponement of its matches the past two days, the skies finally cleared enough for the Hawai'i women's tennis team to fall to No. 19 Michigan, 7-0, Saturday, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine had its modest three-match win streak snapped and dropped to 5-4 on the year.
The Wolverines took the three doubles matches to take the early point. Michigan then won all six singles matches, all in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, junior Lauren Fitzgerald battled Michelle DaCosta but fell, 6-4, 6-3.
“We were hoping to split sets but we haven’t played in a few days because of the rain and it showed,” head coach Carolyn Katayama said. “He had too many errors today and they’re too good a team to get away with that. We’ll regroup and look forward to tomorrow.”
The Rainbow Wahine will play Long Beach State, Sunday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
