Rainbow Wahine Edge Arizona State, 4-3

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Hawai'i women's water polo team edged Arizona State, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Mona Plummer Pool in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference match-up. The No. 10 Rainbow Wahine improved to 5-5 overall, and 2-3 in the MPSF. The loss marks the two teams first meeting as well as No. 16 Arizona State's first-ever conference match.

Sophomore goalie Leanna Hahn kept the Sun Devils scoreless in the first two quarters, on her way to posting a season-high 11 saves. UH took a 1-0 lead going into the half on a goal by Darcy Scott-Hosaka at the 4:52 mark in the second period.
The Sun Devils came firing back with goals by Katie Davis and Ashley Bower giving ASU a 2-1 lead. With 1:18 left in the third period, UH sophomore Kristy Bagnall scored her first of two goals, tying the score at 2.
Goals by junior Malia Tarayao and Bagnall gave the Rainbow Wahine a commanding two-goal lead in the fourth period. With time running out, ASU's Gili Kollan goal ended the scoring at 4-3.
The Rainbow Wahine will next participate at the Gaucho Water Polo Tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara. Along with the Rainbow Wahine in Group B are No. 11 UCSB, No. 2 UCLA, and Pacific. UH is 1-1 against UCLA and UOP this season. UH opens the 16-team round-robin tournament against the Gauchos at 10:10 am PST.
