Hawai`i Sailing Out-Maneuvers Competition at North-South Regatta

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished first at the North-South Regatta over the weekend, Nov. 13-14.

Hawai`i sailed their way into first, finishing three points ahead of second place Stanford, with 101 points. The first four teams were separated by only nine points.

Senior Matthew Stine and Cassandra Harris finished fifth in the A division with a total of 30 points in seven races.

Junior Scott DeCurtis and Becky Mabardy had the best finish of the regatta, accumulating a low of 11 points. Of the seven races DeCurtis and Mabardy grabbed top honors in the first five. While still finishing in a reputable fourth and second in their final two races.

In the C division, the first of two singlehanded events, Mike Scott sailed and gathered fourth in the division with 32 points. Finishing fifth or better in six of the seven races.

In the second singlehanded event Mark Spector sailed in the D division for Hawai`i finishing second in three races totaling 28 points in seven races.

The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team is currently ranked 17th with the Rainbow Wahine ranked 11th as of Nov. 2 on collegesailing.org.

Next for UH sailing is the Sloop Nationals at Newport Beach hosted by UC Irvine, from Nov. 19-21.
