Rainbow Wahine Edges Aztecs in Home Finale, 4-3

HONOLULU - Chelsea Garner-Prohs scored with 1:16 remaining to lift the Hawai'i women's water polo team to a 4-3 victory over San Diego State, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, Saturday, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Rainbow Wahine (8-11, 3-5 MPSF) closed out its home schedule and honored lone senior Karin van Hoff following the match.

Beth Novick led Hawai'i in scoring with two goals. Van Hoff added her team-leading 21st goal in the first period.

The Rainbow Wahine got on the scoreboard first, a van Hoff goal with 2:16 left in the first quarter. With just under a minute to play in the half, the Aztecs tied up the match on a Chelsy Smith goal.

After the break, SDSU went ahead on a Holly Hartzell goal with 1:33 left in the third but moments later, Novick slammed home her first goal to tie the match.

In the fourth, Casey Finnegan scored with 4:53 remaining to give the Aztecs a 3-2 lead. Novick answered with her second goal at the 2:51 mark. After SDSU coach Carin Crawford was ejected for bumping the official with 1:39 left, Garner-Prohs scored the game-winner.

Van Hoff, a three-year letterwinner, will conclude her career in the school's top 10 list in goals, attempts, assists, and steals.

The Rainbow Wahine hit the road to conclude its regular season with matches against Santa Clara (Apr. 11), San Jose State (Apr. 12), and Stanford (Apr. 13).
