Hawai'i Split After Day One at UCSB Gaucho Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After the first day of action at the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Invitational the Rainbow Wahine water polo team split with a 8-4 win over San Jose State and a 7-14 loss to No. 1 ranked Stanford. Which brings the Wahine's record to 3-6 overall.

In their first match of the day Hawai'i won big over San Jose State, 8-4. Spartans led by one goal after the first quarter, but the Wahine would take over that lead in the second scoring 3 goals. From there it was all Hawai'i. The Wahine scored 4 goals in the third and fourth quarters, and held the Spartans to just 2 goals.
Scoring for Hawai'i were Chelsea Garner-Prohs, Tracy Anderson, Kristy Bagnall, Beth Novick, and Malia Trayao. Garner-Prohs led all scorers with 3 goals.
In their second match, the Wahine suffered a 7-14 loss to topped ranked Stanford. Against Stanford the Wahine fell behind early, allowing the Cardinals to score 7 goals in the first and 4 more in the second. The Cardinals dominated throughout the match holding the Wahine to score just 7 goals to their 14.
Karin van-Hoff led the 'Bows with 2 goals, she was helped out by Erin Kocher, Chelsea Garner-Prohs, Beth Novick, and Audrey Harrer each contributing a goal of their own.
The Wahine are set to play Cal State in the final day of the UCSB Gaucho Invitational before returning home to face Pacific Mar. 13 in their first home game of the season.
