HONOLULU—The 7th-ranked University of Hawai`i coed sailing team is in fourth place with 75 points after day one of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA)/Gill North American Dinghy Championships at Keehi Lagoon. Old Dominion leads with 72 points, and Boston College is in third with 73 points.
UH took an 11-point lead after today’s first six races, but stumbled to fourth place when a successful protest against UH resulted in a disqualification in the final race. As a result, UH went from 61 to 75 points. UH, however, remain just three points off the pace.
Freshman skipper Bryan Lake and sophomore crew Jennifer Warnock earned 19 points for the top place in the A division. In the B division, the Rainbows finished the day with 56 points for 11th place with All-American Molly O’Bryan and sophomore Joey Pasqualli skippering, and All-American crew Sarah Hitchcock and junior Lindsay Peters crewing.
Each division competed in six races, with UH averaging a 6th place finish in the 18-team field. The competition continues tomorrow and concludes on Friday, with each division racing 12 more races. Racing begin at 9:45 a.m. on each day.
