Hawai`i Ousted From Team Race Sailing Nationals; Harvard, Georgetown, Tufts and Charleston Advance

HONOLULU—The 7th-ranked University of Hawai`i coed sailing team failed to advance to tomorrow’s final round of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) North American Team Race Championships after finishing day two in fifth place today at Keehi Lagoon. With only the top four teams qualifying for final day action, the Rainbows barely missed the cut with 7-4 record against the 12-team field.

The four teams advancing include Harvard, who went undefeated against the field, defending champion Georgetown, Tufts and the College of Charleston.

UH was in it until the end, but lost to Tufts during its final head-to-head race in the round-robin competition. A Hawai`i win would have forced a three-way sail-off between Tufts, Hawai`i and Charleston for the final two spots.

Women’s All-American Molly O’Bryan, All-American Crew Sarah Hitchcock, freshman standout Bryan Lake, Joey Pasqualli, Lindsay Peters, Ann Feeley-Summerl, Jennifer Warnock, Melody Torres, Sarah Reed, Matt Stine and Adam Corpuz-Lahne sailed for the Rainbows.

The championship will be decided tomorrow, with a double-round robin. Racing begins at 9:45 a.m. and should finish around 1 p.m.
