Hawai`i Sweeps San Jose State in WAC Doubleheader

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The University of Hawai`i softball team swept a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at San Jose State today at the SJSU Field.

UH improves to 25-15 overall and 6-0 in the WAC while SJSU falls to 13-29 and 1-5. The two teams play another doubleheader Saturday at SJSU Field before UH returns to Honolulu.

In game one, the Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Elisa Barrios singled to right, advanced to third on Miranda Gonzales' single, and scored on a wild pitch from UH's Sheri Oronoz.

The scored remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Rainbow Wahine Natalie Gonzales sinlged to center, moved to third on Kate Judd's single, and both came home on Stacey Porter's three-run homer, which broke the UH mark for most home runs in a season. She now has 10.

Oronoz notched her 15th win with seven losses while scattering five hits and striking out two and walking four.

In the second game, UH's Melissa Coogan (8-6) went all the way limiting SJSU to six hits while posting five strikeouts and three walks.

The UH offense got untracked early scoring three in the first and two more in the second en route to an 8-1 victory. Offensively, UH was led by Stacie Hirano, Porter, and Trisha Ramos who each had two hits apiece. Porter added another three RBI in the second game while Ramos contributed two.

The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m. HST.
