HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i was eliminated this morning by Hofstra University, 2-1, in softball in the Chevron Invitational at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Hofstra scored in the bottom of the first off UH starter Melissa Coogan (7-6) when Heather Brousseau led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on Stefanie Kenney's single to left.
Hawai`i tied the game in the fourth off HU's Sara DeAngelis (4-12) as Trisha Ramos reached second on a two-base throwing error, moved to third on Denise Dahlberg's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Marie Jackson's single to center.
Hofstra pushed across the winning run in the fifth when Brousseau reached base when UH first baseman Stacey Porter dropped Coogan's throw, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Amanda Hallaway's single.
Hawai`i falls to 21-15 on the season and has two more non-conference games Monday night. UH hosts Northwestern at 5 p.m. and Hofstra at 7 p.m.
