MORAGA, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's, 5-2, Thursday in a dual meet at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex. The Warriors improved to 12-6 on the year and are on a five-match win streak.
The Warriors, who are currently on a 10-day road trip through California, took five of six singles matches after losing the doubles point. No. 1 and 2 singles players, Reginaldo Moralejo and Justin Menolascino both overcame first set losses in their victories. Moralejo dropped his first game, 6-3 to Saint Mary's Frank Schmitt before winning the next two sets, 6-2, 6-1. After losing 6-2 in the first game of his match, Menolascino bounced back, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
UH's lone defeat in singles play was by No. 3 Malino Oda, who suffered only his second loss in the last eight matches. Oda dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Arturo Planell.
The Warriors take on San Francisco, Friday, March 22.
