Berkeley, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team got their first qualifier for the national championships this past weekend as
Bryan Lake won the Men's Singlehanded PCCs, hosted by the University of California.
Lake finished first in four races, while taking second three times, third twice and fourth twice. He ended up with 90 points, which was 16 points better than Brian Haines of Stanford, who finished in second.
Mathew Stine just missed qualifying by four points with a 110-point total. Stine finished one race in first while taking second twice and third three times. Other UH sailors included Steve Brown (8th place) and Willi Edwards (9th place).
On the women's side, Blair Ladd was UH's top sailor with a 10th place finish. Renee DeCurtis finished 11th, winning one race, while Samantha Howard (14th place) and Jessica Rohr (16th place) also finished in the top 20.
