Bryan Lake of the University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished fourth at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ISCA) Men’s Singlehanded North American Championships held on Nov. 16-17 in Norfolk, Va. Lake finished with a total of 98 points in the 16-race regatta.
David Wright of King’s Point won the regatta with Brad Funk of Old Dominion and Clay Bischoff of Harvard finishing second and third, respectively.
Lake is the first Hawai`i sailor to participate in the men’s singlehanded championship since John Myrdal and Morgan Larson finished third and fourth, respectively, in 1994. Laura Rehg finished 10th in the women’s championship in 1998. Lake qualified for the North American Championships by finishing second in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Men’s Singlehanded Championships, Sept. 22-23.
This was the final regatta for the Hawai`i sailing fall season. Hawai`i finished the season with the coed team ranked ninth and the Wahine ranked eighth in the Sailing World magazine college poll.
