ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Hawai'i quarterback
Colt Brennan won second-team All-America honors, announced today by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The award earns Brennan a trip to New Haven, Conn., where the official awards will be handed out in at Yale University in January.
Brennan is the first warrior quarterback to earn All-America status since Jeff Duva was an honorable mention pick by the Associated Press in 1978. He is the first Walter Camp All-America pick from UH in the 117-year history of the award.
The junior from Irvine, Calif., has led the Warriors to a 10-3 season and the program's first national ranking since 1993. Brennan, who is one shy of the NCAA single-season mark of 54 touchdown passes, leads the nation in five statistical categories, including total offense (410.8), passing efficiency (182.8), points responsible for (26.8), completion percentage (72.14%), and total passing yards (4,990).
The Walter Camp All-America team is selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 119 Division I-A football schools and certified by UHY Advisors, a New Haven-based accounting firm. Walter Camp Football Foundation President Allen Jackson was pleased with the voting participation.
"We had 82 percent of the I-A schools participate in this year's voting," Jackson said. "We are very appreciative of the cooperation of the coaches and SIDs in our effort to honor the most outstanding college players each and every season."
Brennan was also a finalist for the Davey O'Brien Award which went to Ohio State's Troy Smith.
