UH VS. BYU FOOTBALL GAME MOST VIEWED IN ESPN2 HISTORY

NULL

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai'i Warrior football game against Brigham Young University that aired December 8, 2001 on ESPN2 was the most viewed college football game in the history of the network, Athletics Director Hugh Yoshida announced today.

According to ESPN, the game made 1.5 million household impressions and was also the third largest audience in ESPN history.

"Any national exposure, especially on ESPN, always enhances and promotes our athletic programs," Yoshida said. "This made an impression across the nation. It showcased the style of football that Coach Jones has been successful with and the kind of excitement it generates here in the islands, especially against a rival like BYU."

Warrior Head Coach June Jones agreed.

"We knew it was going to be the most watched game in this school's history and this kind of proves it," Jones said. "I hope this will help in getting more national exposure again next year when we go to Provo."

The Warriors and Cougars meet again Sept. 7, 2002 in Provo, Utah. It will be the second game of the season for Hawai'i, which opens Aug. 31, 2002, against Eastern Illinois. The remaining schedule is: Sept. 21 at UTEP, Sept. 28 vs. SMU, Oct. 5 at Boise State, Oct. 12 vs. Nevada, Oct. 19 vs. Tulsa, Oct. 26 at Fresno State, Nov. 2 vs. San Jose State, Nov. 16 at Rice, Nov. 23 vs. Cincinnati, Nov. 30 Washington State, Dec. 7 San Diego State.
