Kelsey O’Brien joined Student-Athlete Academic Services at the University of Hawai‘i in March 2023.
O’Brien currently holds the position of Student Athlete Academic Advisor since 2023. In her role, O’Brien is responsible for advising student-athletes in the sports of men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s basketball, and track & field and cross country. She is also the SAAS Tutor Program Coordinator.
O’Brien previously worked at UC Santa Barbara as the Scholar Retention Program Coordinator from 2021-22. Prior to that, she worked as a Student-Athlete Academic Mentor at UC Los Angeles from 2019-21.
The Santa Barbara, Calif., native earned her bachelor’s degree in geography from UC Los Angeles in 2017. She earned an MSc in anthropology from Durham University in 2019 and an MA in Education from UC Santa Barbara in 2022.
O'Brien played water polo at UC Los Angeles from 2013-17. She played one season with the National 1 French club team, NC Angerien, in Saint Jean d'Angely from 2017-18. O’Brien also played one season at Durham University from 2018-19 while earning a master’s degree.
She and her partner, James, currently reside in the Manoa Valley.
