Keith Zuniga

Keith Zuniga completed his second season as a part of the Hawai‘i coaching staff in 2025 after joining the program in July 2023. Zuniga serves as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He arrived at UH after spending three seasons at New Mexico State, ending his time with the Aggies as the interim head coach, leading the program from March through the end of the 2023 season.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS (at UH)
  • One of eight teams nationally to rank in the top 20 in ERA each of the last two seasons (Arkansas, LSU, North Carolina, Oregon State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCSB).
  • Has helped lead UH to back-to-back 35-plus win seasons for the first time since 1991-92, winning 37 games in 2024 and 35 in 2025.
  • The Rainbow Warriors finished 18th in the country and second in the Big West in ERA in 2025 (4.25).
  • Also finished 21st in the nation in WHIP (1.32). 
  • Pitching staff struck out 484 batters in 2025, the third-most in program history and most in a year since 1985.
  • Guided the UH pitching staff to the nation's best ERA in his first season in 2024 at 3.78.
  • The 'Bows also finished in the top 10 nationally in WHIP (5th), walks per nine innings (6th) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (9th).
  • The Rainbow Warriors also led the Big West in all four of those categories.
  • UH pitchers finished the 2024 season on a roll, posting a 1.47 ERA over the final 13 games and limiting teams to four runs or fewer in each of those contests.
  • UH's 471 strikeouts are currently the fourth-most in school history.
  • The staff's mark of 8.16 hits allowed per game is the lowest by the program since 1992.
  • Helped guide Hawai‘i to the nation's best record over the final 20 games of the regular season in 2024, winning 18 of the last 20.
  • The team's 37-16 record in his first season was the best for the program since 2006.
PRIOR TO UH
  • While at New Mexico State, Zuniga worked primarily as the Aggies’ pitching coach while also serving as recruiting coordinator.
  • A pair of Zuniga’s pitchers at New Mexico State were selected in the 2022 MLB Draft in Ian Mejia (11th round, Atlanta Braves) and Sammy Natera (17th round, Los Angeles Angels), while four others signed professional contracts. 
  • Spent six seasons on the staff at his alma mater, Bethune-Cookman, starting off as director of baseball operations from 2015-17 before serving as an assistant coach in 2018 and taking over pitching coach responsibilities from 2019-20.
  • Staff posted a 2.56 ERA in 2020 while holding opponents to a .209 batting average.
  • In 2019, he mentored 11th-round draft pick Anthony Maldonado, who finished second in the MEAC with 97 strikeouts while working with a BCU staff that led the conference in punch-outs.
  • Helped bring in the highest-ranked recruiting class in Bethune-Cookman history, as the 2019 signing class ranked 59th in the country according to Perfect Game.
  • Finished his two-year career at BCU with a 15-9 record and 2.85 ERA over 186.0 innings pitched, earning All-MEAC honors both years.
