Nick Castello returns for his fifth season as an assistant coach and seventh year overall on the University of Hawai‘i women's volleyball coaching staff. He served as the program's volunteer coach under head coach Robyn Ah Mow in her first two seasons in 2017-18.

Castello, a former UH men's volleyball player, was hired on August 5, 2021 after serving as an assistant coach at Irvine Valley College for both women and men’s programs in 2019-21. The 2019 season on the women’s side was under UH men's volleyball alum, Tom Pestolesi . While coaching at Irvine Valley College, Castello was also a practice player with the U.S. women’s national volleyball team.

Castello also worked with the UH beach volleyball program as an assistant coach in 2022 and was named interim head coach in April 2025. 
 
Castello was the starting libero for the Rainbow Warriors volleyball team from 2011-12. He finished his UH career with 404 total digs (1.99/set). As a senior, he averaged 2.28 digs per set and earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Honorable Mention. After graduating from Hawai‘i in 2012, Castello went on to play professionally for VK Ostrava (2013-14), who played in CEV Champions League. Then for Volejbal Brno (2014-16), with his first year competing in CEV Challenge Cup and his last season ending with two silver finishes in both the Czech Cup and Czech Extraliga.
 
Prior to playing at UH, Castello redshirted then played two seasons at Irvine Valley College and was a member of the 2010 Pacific Coast Conference championship squad. He was named the conference’s player of the year in 2010 after averaging 4.03 digs per set and set a school record with 28 digs against rival Orange Coast College. He also was selected first-team all-conference in 2009.
 
The Honolulu native is a 2007 graduated from Assets School. Castello starred at Maryknoll School because Assets did not field a volleyball program. He earned second-team All-State and first-team all-Interscholastic League of Honolulu honors as a senior. He also played basketball and baseball in high school.
