Mandy Federici Head Shot 2017

Mandy Federici

Joining the University of Hawai‘i program as assistant coach overseeing throws, Mandy Federici was announced in September 2017 as a member of the inaugural staff of first-year head coach Tim Boyce.

"Mandy is a very positive addition to our staff," Boyce said at the time of Federici’s hiring. "She possesses solid credentials in all of the throwing events and has worked with some of the top coaches in the country, all who recommended her highly. We were excited to offer her this opportunity at UH."

Federici comes to Manoa after spending two years as an assistant coach overseeing throws at Pacific University (Ore.). Under her tutelage, Emily Sproul earned All-American honors in consecutive seasons (2016-17), earning seventh place at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in the javelin during both seasons.

On Federici's watch, six Pacific throwers also earned all-region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Her event group was well represented at the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships, led by a Sproul women's javelin title and Jacob DuVall men's discus crown. Josh Huffman also finished third in the men's discus.

In Federici's first season with Pacific (2016), she guided All-American javelin thrower Mackenzie Huddleston to a runner-up finish in the NWC Championships, while Sproul was fifth. Huddleston went on to place third at the NCAA Championships.

"I feel incredibly blessed for the opportunity to work with such a great group of young ladies here at UH," Federici said at her hiring. "I'm very thankful that coach Tim Boyce saw the potential in me to make me a part of this 'ohana. I look forward to building on a strong foundation and pushing the throwing corps to be an even greater point of pride for Hawai'i."

Prior to Pacific, Federici served as the throws coach for both the men's and women's programs at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. from 2012-15, beginning as a graduate assistant before being elevated to the full assistant role. Her Concordia-St. Paul throwers broke all of the program's throws records. She also guided the career of All-American shot putter Mike Cullen, who placed 11th at the NCAA Division II Championships to become the program's first AA honoree.

Prior to C-SP, Federici served for one season as an assistant coach for men and women at Concordia University-Portland, coaching three All-Americans. She also spent one season as the head field coach at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

As a student-athlete, Federici was a two-time junior college All-American while at Mt. Hood. She graduated from Concordia-Portland in 2012, competing for the Cavaliers and twice placing second at the Cascade Conference Championships in the hammer. She was a member of Concordia's 2011 NAIA National Outdoor Championship.

Federici graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. She earned her master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia-St. Paul in 2014. She has earned her USATF Level I Certification.
