Lana Phillips begins her first season as the team's student assistant. A former Rainbow Wahine track athlete, Phillips' event specialty was the hetathlon, which she competed from 2002-2005.
In 2002, Phillips placed 11th in the heptathlon at the WAC Outdoor Championships. The next year, she improved on that finish, placing eigth. Also that season, the Wills point, Texas native, posted the school's third best mark 4,004 points. In 2004, Phillips also recorded the second-best UH mark in the javelin (34.02m) at the Triton invitational.
Phillips is a 2001 graduate of Wills Point High School in Texas. She was a member of the 2000 state championship 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams, which set state records in both events. As a senior, Phillips was named the school's Top Female Athlete.
