Kristi Yoshizawa is in her second year as an assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine after serving as the student equipment manager in 2007. Yoshizawa's duties include working with the pitchers and catchers primarily while also helping with the outfielders and batting.
The catcher/third baseman finished her collegiate playing career in 2006. Yoshizawa played in 99 games for the Rainbow Wahine after transferring as a junior from Sierra College.
After primarily playing third base for UH as a junior, Yoshizawa stepped behind the plate as a senior and was solid the entire season. She called and caught five perfect games in 2006--three by Justine Smethurst, one by Kate Robinson, and combined effort with Smethurst and Jessica Morton.
Yoshizawa was named to the 2006 WAC All-Tournament team. There, she had a career game in the semi-finals against No.20 Fresno State. Yoshizawa went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and a two-run home run over the rightfield fence at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.
In the summer of 2007 Yoshizawa continued her softball career as she played third base with the Great Britain national team. She played in the European Championships held -in Holland and the Olympic Qualifier in Italy.
Yoshizawa was an all-conference player in softball and basketball at Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, Calif. She then was an NFCA All-American at Sierra College (2003-04) where she started at shortstop and catcher. In 2004, she made the California state first team as a shortstop and also was named all-conference.
The California native serves as a volunteer basketball coach for her high school when she's home in Rancho Cordova. In her free time, she enjoys playing basketball, shopping and going to the beach.
Yoshizawa earned her B.A. in sociology from the University of Hawai'i in 2007. She also obtained her A.A. degree in liberal arts from Sierra College in 2004.
