John Flanagan

    Assistant Coach
John Flanagan enters his first season as assistant coach with the men’s and women’s swimming teams. Flanagan comes to the UH program with extensive coaching experience from an array of swim clubs. 
 
He most recently spent time as the head coach of the Kamehameha Swim Club for seven years. Along with coaching in the prep ranks, his current involvement extends to other clubs such as Boca Hawaii and the Oahu Club.
 
He previously spent two years as a national team coach for Punahou Aquatics and one year as the head swim coach for the Rainbow Aquatics. Flanagan returns to UH after a brief stint as a volunteer assistant to the program from 1997-98. 
 
In collegiate competition Flanagan was a member of the Auburn swimming team that won the NCAA National Championship in 1997, as well as a SEC Team Champion member in 1995 and 1997. He received Academic All-American honorable mention in 1997 and the 1996-97 Auburn Top Tiger Academic Award, before graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Finance.   
 
He is a candidate to receive his Masters degree in Kinesiology and Leisure Science with an emphasis on Physiology from the University of Hawai`i in 2008.
