The University of Hawai‘i men's golf program has been in the trusty hands of head coach Ronn Miyashiro. The former Rainbow Warrior, who completed his 24th season in 2020-21, is currently the third-most tenured head coach at UH behind sailing coach Andy Johnson and softball coach Bob Coolen.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Coached seven of the 11 golfers in the program’s history who’ve captured medalist honors, including Skye Inakoshi, who tied for first place at the 2016 John Burns Intercollegiate on Kaua‘i.
  • Coached 2006 Western Athletic Conference Champion Jarrett Hamamoto.
  • In 2004, Matt Kodama competed in the NCAA West Regional.
  • Missing from his resume is a conference championship, which his 2007 team came within one shot of capturing the program’s first title. The second place finish was the highest in school history.
  • In 2013-14, UH captured the Aloha @ O‘ahu Tournament, its first collegiate victory since 2004 when it shared team honors with Arizona at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver, Colo., and the sixth tournament win in Miyashiro’s tenure.
  • In 2001, Scott Carlyle qualified for the NCAA West Regional and in 2005 Pierre-Henri Soero became the only UH golfer to compete in the U.S. Open.
  • A number of his players have won the prestigious Manoa Cup, the state’s top amateur tournament, including two recent champions - Jared Sawada (2013) and Nainoa Calip (2014).
  • Coached 11 all-conference golfers, including two NCAA Regional qualifiers and three Academic All-Americans (Carlyle, Brian Lee, Scotty Yamashita).
  • In addition to wooing some of the top talent in the state of Hawai‘i, his recruiting efforts have brought him players from all over the globe. He has recruited golfers from foreign countries that include Australia, Canada, Guam, Japan, New-Caledonia, Tahiti, Thailand, and Western Samoa as well as American talent from Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina and Washington.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
  • At age 23, he was hired to take over the Hawai‘i golf program and became the youngest head coach in the history of the University of Hawai‘i.

  • Prepped at Hilo High School, earning four letters in golf and receiving all-state honors in 1991 and ’92.
