Statement from Robyn Ah Mow

WVB Robyn Ah Mow UVU

With a heavy heart, I want to share that I will be stepping away from my role as head coach of the Rainbow Wahine volleyball program.

This decision was not easy. It came after a great deal of reflection and soul searching, but the time has come to focus on my family who have sacrificed so much time with me so I could fulfill my dream of being the head coach of this storied program.

I gave everything I had to this team, pouring into each and every player with the goal of helping them become not only the best volleyball players they could be, but strong, successful women in life. Playing for the “H” was a privilege. Coaching this program has been an incredible honor.

I wanted to share my experiences with the young women who came through the program. Hoping for them to understand what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves — this University, this state, and this sport.

In my eyes, there is no other program better than this one. It means so much not only to me, but to the people of Hawai‘i. This program and this place have shaped me into the person I am today. It has given so much to me and I felt a responsibility to give back to it, because my life would be so much different if not for this program.

I want to thank my parents who sacrificed so much to give me the opportunity to play volleyball and reach the highest levels. To represent this country, and the people of our state, in three Olympic games was an experience beyond my wildest dreams. I wanted to push the players in this program enough to help them believe that they could do the same, no matter what their skill level was, who they were as individuals, and where they were from.

I will carry each of the players that came through the program close to my heart and wish them success and happiness in everything they do.

To the people of Hawai‘i — thank you for your unwavering support and aloha throughout my time as both a player and a coach.

Mahalo and Aloha.
