Tournament History
The Ka‘anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER debuted in 2014 at the Ka‘anapali Golf Courses in west Maui. The Royal Ka‘anapali has served as host since the tournament’s inception and has attracted the best in college golf as the schools wrap up their fall seasons.
The inaugural tournament featured a 13-team field and was won by Oregon. A different team won the title the first five years of the tournament until Oklahoma won its second title in 2019. The Sooners have won a record five Ka‘anapali titles, including three-straight from 2022-24. Four teams have featured multiple medalists – California, Clemson, Georgia, and Oklahoma. The tournament has featured an individual playoff twice in 2014 and 2019.
Kansas set the tournament record in 2021 with an 800 total while Georgia’s Trent Phillips and Oklahoma’s Quade Cummins hold the individual record at 193 in 2019. Phillips won the title in a seven-hole playoff.
Host UH’s best team finish was seventh place in 2015 while individually, two Rainbow Warriors posted Top 10 finishes - Pono Tokioka (t-5th) in 2014 and James Horton (t-9th) in 2015.
