Tournament History
The University of Hawai‘i women’s golf program began hosting a fall tournament in 1997 with the Princeville Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic in Kaua‘i and despite moving islands and golf courses, the team has continued to host a fall tournament ever since.

After two years on Kaua‘i, the tournament moved to O‘ahu at the Kapolei Golf Course as the Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic from 1999-2001. Kapolei hosted the tournament for 10 consecutive years (1999-2008) through the event’s name change to the Kent Youel Invitational from 2002-08.

In 2009, the tournament moved to Turtle Bay Resort on O‘ahu’s North Shore as part of the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, which featured a men’s division and was played on both the Fazio and Palmer courses. After two years at Turtle Bay, the tournament moved back to Kapolei as the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in 2011.

Leilehua Golf Course hosted the tournament for six straight years (2012-17) before relocating back to Kapolei in 2018 where it is currently held.

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational has been played for 27 years with a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

UCLA has the most tournament titles with five while Sacramento State (3), Baylor (2), Colorado State (2), Florida International (2), and San Francisco (2) have also won multiple titles. In addition, five Bruins have won medalist honors while Baylor, BYU, Colorado State, Sacramento State, Stanford, and Washington each have two individual winners.

Host UH does not have a team title in the event although Melanie Matsumura tied for first in 1999 but lost in a sudden death playoff. The Rainbow Wahine have three runner-up finishes most recently in 2015.
