2020-21 RAINBOW WAHINE TENNIS 

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• The Rainbow Wahine concluded the shortened 2021 season with a 7-8 record while falling in the semifinals of the Big West Tournament.

• UH advanced to the semifinal round for the fifth consecutive tournament after a win over UC Davis in the quarterfinals but failed to reach the championship match for the first time since 2015.

• The 2021 season marked the end of an illustrious career for Petra Melounova, who will be remembered as one of the program’s most decorated players. 

• The Havlíckuv Brod, Czech Republic native earned a spot on the all-Big West first team in singles for the fourth time and despite sitting out for part of the season due to injury, still managed to post a 4-4 overall record and 4-1 mark in conference play on the No. 1 court.

• Senior Nikola Dolakova also earned a spot on the first team in singles with a 7-3 overall record and a nearly perfect mark of 6-1 in conference play. The Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia native was also named to the all-Big West second team in doubles with partner Satsuki Takamura after the pair led the team with a 7-7 overall record and went 6-3 in Big West play.

• Takamura also earned conference honorable mention honors in singles.

• Melounova was named the UH's female recipient for the  Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year award for the third consecutive year.

HELPING THE NEXT GENERATION

While the COVID pandemic prevented the team from fall competition, members of the team devoted their energy to serve as tutors and mentors for children at Waikiki Elementary.

 A RETURN TO THE COURT

After nearly a full year on the sidelines, the Rainbow Wahine returned to competition with a road match on Feb. 18 at USC before making their 2021 home debut in Manoa with a 4-3 win over conference rival CSUN.

END OF AN ERA

 Petra Melounova concluded her final season as a Rainbow Wahine and leaves as one of the program's all-time greats. Melounova was a four-time all-conference honoree, a three-time Big West Player of the Year, a two-time Big West Female Scholar Athlete of the Year (Hawai‘i representative) and UH's first-ever ITA All-American after she advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship.
