Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Colorado
Sept. 3, 2015
Hawai‘i Head Coach Norm Chow
On getting off on the right foot..
These players worked so hard in fall camp. The coaches did a great job preparing the team on both offense and defense and it was really a combination of a lot of things that contributed to today. This was a very good football team we played and I’m very proud of our players and coaches. We’re excited about the win but we have to understand it’s just one and we’re on to the next one.
On the performance of quarterback Max Wittek..
I just told him to stick with it when things weren’t going well. You see he’s got a terrific arm and I just told him to just take what they could give us. He wanted to make the big play but it was his leadership and skills that kept us in it.
On the performance of kicker/punter Rigoberto Sanchez
Rigoberto came highly recruited out of Butte College and we talked to him about coming and earning a scholarship. After today’s game, he earned that scholarship. It wasn’t just his punting but his field goal kicking, it was so accurate. We gave out three game balls after the game, one to the offensive staff, one to the defensive staff, and one to Rigo.
On going for two points after the team’s first touchdown..
We talked about doing that as a coaching staff, I told Don (Bailey) that’s what we were going to do. If they had scored first we probably wouldn’t have done it, but we went for it and they (Colorado) didn’t adjust to the motion guy and it was a pretty easy throw.
Colorado Head Coach Mike MacIntyre
Thoughts on last play of the game..
It was crazy, and I’ll have to look at it on film before I say anything about that…Well the referee dropped the ball, and then their guy grabbed the ball, and we couldn’t ever spike it, that’s what it looked like to me but I’ll have to find out when I watch the film later.
On miscues..
We had a number in the first half that that hurt us for sure that we have to remedy and fix and move on, I still really like this team, I still believe in this team, and think this team is going to win a lot of football games.
On the defense...
I’ll get back and watch the film, I think we outgained them 370 to 300 and gave them a short field on one of the scores. I thought we battled hard, but the debut you want is a win, period.
On UH’s blocked punt..
Yeah, it set a bad tone but that’s just the beginning of the game, and we had great opportunities to go in and score a few other times and didn’t take advantage of them, and had some guys wide open and didn’t get it accomplished like we would like, we just gotta go back and make those plays.
On Hawai‘i..
I think they’re a good football team, I think Hawai’i is an improved football team, their quarterback’s a good player, he made some plays for them, we had a lot of opportunities to make some other plays.
