Post-Match Notes: Hawai‘i vs. Texas A&M
No. 7 Hawai'i won its 23-straight match sweeping No. 15/10-seeded Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas on Saturday night.
In a battle of conference champions, the Big West crown holders, Hawai'i, improved to 28-1 overall while the SEC Champion Aggies fell to 24-8 overall.
It is the 28th time in program history that UH has advanced to the NCAA Regionals. It is the first time since 2011 that UH has made it past the first two rounds. The Rainbow Wahine lost to USC in a hard fought match, 2-3 in the Regional which was held in Honolulu.
It was UH's 17th three-set sweep over an opponent this season. The Rainbow Wahine have swept four of their last five matches.
Hawai'i junior Nikki Taylor led the 'Bows with a match-high 14 kills. She hit .324 for the match with three errors in 34 swings. She also added a service ace, eight digs and two blocks. It is the 24th time this season that she has led UH in kills in a match. It is also the 26th time this year that Taylor has recorded double-digit kills in a match.
Nikki Taylor is also now just 50 kills shy of becoming the 19th member of Hawai'i's 1,000-kill Club. Currently, she has 950 career kills.
Sophomore Kalei Greeley had her second-straight solid game and helped to lead the 'Bows to the next round. Greeley tallied 10 kills for a .625 hitting percentage with no errors on 16 attacks. She also added a service ace and three digs.
Senior middle Olivia Magill recorded 10 kills with a match-high five block assists. She has recorded double-digit kills in seven out of the last eight matches.
Savanah Kahakai had a match-high 19 digs and five assists.
This marks Hawai'i's 34th NCAA appearance and 22nd-straight appearance.
