WAC Tournament Quotes - Game 8

2008 WAC Volleyball Tournament
Nov. 23, 2008
No. 1 New Mexico State vs. No. 2 Hawai`i

QUOTE SHEET

New Mexico State head coach Mike Jordan

“Give Hawai`i credit. They played well. We were terrible at the service line. Bad serving led to them hitting a high percentage. We handed them a lot of points. We pretty much handed them Set 3 and they kicked out tails in Set 4.”

“That momentum shift at the end of Set 3 carried over into Set 4. I thought our attitude was too soft. I think we made their block look god. We didn’t pass well and it made us predictable. But they did a nice job.”

“At the end of Set 3 it was tight and close. We had a couple of long rallies and those momentum shifts turned the tide in their favor.”

Hawai`i head coach Dave Shoji

“I think it was our best match of the year. The players did a nice job of following the game plan. We know what they like to do and we tried to take away their best shots. It makes it fun when they follow the game plan.”

“It means a lot to us. I think we all have been waiting for this match. Our players did a nice job of being patient, working hard and taking care of business since the last time we faced them.”

“We have been passing really well. Tara Hittle was pretty good tonight. It helps when all three are back there passing. Tara, Kanani and Aneli have been working really well together back there.”

Hawai`i outside hitter Jamie Houston

“I think we have been waiting for a while to face them again. We knew we didn’t play well the last time we played them.”

Hawai`i setter Stephanie Brandt

“I had to get mentally prepared for this tournament. I haven’t set a home match in a while. I set a higher ball, so the hitters had to adjust. After the first match, we all adjusted and were able to focus on the opponent. We were all working together as a team.”
