Women's Volleyball Hosts Arizona State in Spring Series

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opens its spring schedule by facing Arizona State in a two-match series on Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. First serve for both matches is set for 7:00 p.m. Hawai'i Time.

  • The Rainbow Wahine return eight letterwinners from last season's 21-10 team that captured a Big West title for the fifth straight year by winning the Hawaiian Islands presents the 2024 Outrigger Big West Championship.
  • UH won the tournament title for the second straight year to earn the program's 31st consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 42nd overall.
  • UH returns four starters in middle blocker Miliana Sylvester, outside hitters Tali Hakas and Stella Adeyemi and defensive specialist Victoria Leyva.
  • Sylvester started all 31 matches last season and was named to the Big West All-Freshman team in 2024 after leading the team with 91 total blocks (0.73 per set).
  • Hakas was an All-Big West honorable mention selection last season and is the team's returning kills leader with 259 total and 2.07 per set. Adeyemi was next at 250 kills (2.08 per set).
  • Sophomore Victoria Leyva started 26 matches and played in all 125 sets as a defensive specialist. She averaged 2.00 digs per set as a freshman.
  • The 'Bows' newcomers to the spring semester include transfers middle blocker Bri Gunderson (Eastern Washington), setter Audrey Hollis (UC San Diego) and libero/defensive specialist Leilani Lopez along with freshman outside hitter Cha'lei Reid (Kahuku High School).

  • Arizona State went 30-3 last season and placed 13th in the final AVCA/Taraflex Division I coaches poll.
  • The Sun Devils captured the Big 12 title with a 17-1 conference record and was a No. 3 regional seed in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Texas A&M in the second round.
  • The Big 12 title was the first conference championships for the ASU women's volleyball program.
  • The Sun Devils lost most of their regular rotation and added a group of eight newcomers to the roster for the spring comprised of five transfers and three freshmen.
  • JJ Van Niel, now in his third year, was the Big 12 Coach of the Year and the AVCA Pacific Region Coach of the Year in 2024.
