Wahine Fund Created To Support Women’s Athletics

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department is thrilled to announce the launch of the Wahine Fund, a new initiative designed to support UH female student-athletes. The kickoff event for this fund will run for 45 days, starting on August 1 and concluding on September 15. Although the fund will remain active beyond these dates, the initial goal is to raise $50,000, which has the potential to be matched up to $50,000 by an already committed donor.

"This fund is a fantastic opportunity for our supporters to directly contribute to the growth and success of our Rainbow Wahine sports," said Craig Angelos, UH Athletics Director. "We have seen tremendous achievements across all our women's programs, and this fund will be crucial in providing the necessary support for our female student-athletes."

In the 2023-24 athletic season, the Rainbow Wahine programs capped off one of their most successful years. The women's volleyball, women's swimming & diving, women's basketball, women's water polo, and beach volleyball teams all won conference titles. Notably, the women's water polo team made an impressive run to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament.

Fans interested in participating can visit WahineFund.com to pledge their support. The Wahine Fund represents an exciting opportunity to enhance the experience and success of UH's female student-athletes.

"Regardless of the dollar amount, this program will be a game changer in improving the student-athlete experience for our Wahine athletes," said Kimo Kai, Associate Athletics Director.
