COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former University of Hawai'i All-American middle blocker Taylor Averill was one of 12 players named to the U.S. Men's Volleyball Team for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Averill will make his Olympic debut after serving as an alternate for the 2020 Tokyo Games. The San Jose, Calif., native is the third former Rainbow Warrior to suit up for the U.S. at the Olympic Games joining Carlos Briceno (1992) and Clay Stanley (2004 & 2008).
The Paris Games runs July 26 through August 11. The U.S. are currently ranked No. 2 in the world. The team has competed in 12 Olympic games, including the last 10, and has won three Olympic gold medals (1984, 1988 and 2008) and two bronze medals (1992 and 2016).
Averill is one of four middle blockers named to the team and one of three making their Olympic debuts. He was a two-time AVCA first-team All-American for Hawai'i from 2012-15 and helped the Warriors to the NCAA Championship tournament in 2015 for the first time in 13 years.
Prior to the Olympics, the U.S. will compete in the Volleyball Nations League which runs May 21 through June 30. Averill and former Rainbow Warrior All-American Patrick Gasman are among the 30-member U.S. squad. Gasman was a four-time AVCA All-American and four-time first-team all-Big West honoree from 2017-21.
