HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Colorado State, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 to improve to 2-0 in Spring matches. Jacyn Bamis, UH's only middle blocker on the roster this spring, played the whole match and was solid the entire match, putting down 17 kills to lead all players. This was the second of three Spring matches to be played this week. On Thursday, the Rainbow Wahine will take on Notre Dame.
 
Not only did Bamis bury a game-high 17 kills, but she hit .500 (17-4-26) for the match and she was in on nine total blocks—also a match-high.
 
Caylen Alexander finished with nine kills with a service ace, six digs and two blocks. Kate Lang and Jackie Matias split time at setter with Lang issuing 26 assists and Matias dishing out 10.
 
Hawai'i came out on fire in Set 1, scoring in bunches and jumping out to a quick 12-3 lead. The Rainbow Wahine kept things rolling and led by as many as nine points a few times. The 'Bows would win by seven, 25-18.
 
Both teams scored in spurts early in Set 2. UH was down 4-5, but then scored seven of the next eight points to take an 11-6 lead. A four-point Rams run shrunk the 'Bows lead to one at 15-14. But the UH rallied to score four consecutive points to take a 19-14 lead. UH would maintain their lead to win Set 2, 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Colorado State held the lead early in Set 3, but a four-point run with Jackie Matias serving catapulted UH to an 11-7 lead from which the Rams could not recover from. UH would cruise to take Set 3, 25-16 to seal the sweep.
 
UH won in the match in three sets, but both teams had arranged prior to the start that if one team swept, the two teams would play an extra fourth frame.
 
The Rams won the extra set, 25-18.
 
Hawai'i will conclude their Spring slate as they take on Notre Dame on Thursday, March 14^th. First serve is at 7:00 p.m. HT at the SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.
