2024 Women's Volleyball Season In Review

Women's Volleyball Big West Champions

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rainbow Wahine captured the program’s fifth consecutive Big West title in head coach Robyn Ah Mow’s seventh season (eighth year overall) by winning the Hawaiian Islands present the 2024 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship in Irvine, Calif.
  • UH ended 2024 with an overall record of 21-10 and 13-5 in Big West play.
  • The ’Bows claimed their 13th Big West championship and 28th conference title overall with a four-set victory over Cal Poly in the title match at the Bren Events Center.
  • UH earned the Big West’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and appeared in the bracket for the 31st consecutive season and 42nd time overall.
  • The ’Bows were assigned to the NCAA sub-regional in Eugene, Ore., for the second straight year and closed the season with a loss to TCU in a first-round match at Matthew Knight Arena.
  • The ’Bows finished second in the Big West regular-season standings and have placed in the top two each year since rejoining the conference in 2012.
  • UH led the Big West and ranked seventh nationally in team kills (1,735) and also led the conference in kills per set (13.88), assists per set (12.97) and digs per set (15.96).
  • Outside hitter Caylen Alexander earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, marking the fifth consecutive season and 38th overall that a UH player received AVCA All-America recognition.
  • Outside hitter Caylen Alexander was named to the AVCA Pacific All-Region team. Setter Kate Lang was an All-Region honorable mention selection.
  • Alexander closed her junior season leading NCAA Division I with 611 total kills and 676.5 total points. She ranked fifth in kills per set (5.09) and seventh in points per set (5.64).
  • Setter Kate Lang led the Big West and ranked seventh nationally with 1,314 total assists. She averaged a conference-high 10.51 assists per set.
  • Lang moved up to third on UH's career assists chart with 4,544 and became the third UH setter to post 4,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career.
  • Libero Tayli Ikenaga led the Big West with 502 total digs and ranked third with 4.02 digs per set.
  • Six ’Bows earned All-Big West honors — Caylen Alexander (Player of the Year, First Team), Kate Lang (Setter of the Year, First Team), Tayli Ikenaga (Libero of the Year, Second Team), Jacyn Bamis (honorable mention), Tali Hakas (honorable mention), Mililana Sylvester (All-Freshman Team).
  • Tayli Ikenaga was named Most Valuable Player of the Big West Championship.
  • Stella Adeyemi, Tali Hakas, Tayli Ikenaga, and Kate Lang were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
  • UH went to five sets in 11 matches, the most since playing 12 in 1984. The ’Bows went 7-4 in five-set matches, including a season-opening comeback over SMU and a victory over UC Davis in the semifinals of the Big West Championship.
  • UH ranked third in the nation in total attendance (98, 912) and average attendance (6,182) over 16 home dates at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

  • Tayli Ikenaga: 502 digs, 4.02 digs per set, .958 reception percentage

 

All-Big West Honorable Mention

  • Tali Hakas (OH): 259 kills, 26 service aces, 62 blocks, 364 digs
  • Jacyn Bamis (MB): 262 kills, .279 hitting percentage, 82 blocks

 

All-Big West Freshman Team

  • Miliana Sylvester (MB): 231 kills, .297 hitting percentage, 91 blocks, 0.73 blocks per set

The Rainbow Wahine captured their fifth straight Big West Championship following a four-set win against top-seeded Cal Poly. Libero, Tayli Ikenaga was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

'BOWS PUNCH A TICKET TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

The Rainbow Wahine returned to the Pacific Northwest for their 42nd appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
