Women's Volleyball Swept by No. 25 San Diego

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (0-3, 0 0 Big West) got off to a slow start but rallied to push No. 25 San Diego (3-0 0-0 WCC). The Toreros were able to hold off the late-charging Hawai'i squad in a sweep, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23. With the win, the Toreros captured the Texas A&M Invitational. UH falls to 0-3 for the first time since 2017.

Junior middle blocker Amber Igiede led UH with a match-high 11 kills and a season-high four blocks—including two solo. Rookie outside hitter Caylen Alexander shined with a solid match across the board pounding 10 kills on a team-best .474 hitting percentage (10-1-19). She added a team-best three service aces, two digs and a block. For Alexander, it marked the second time this young season that she's notched double-digits in kills and she at lease one service aces in every match this week and her three aces vs. USD are the most for a UH player thus far.

Sophomore setter Kate Lang registered her second double-double of the season with 25 assists and 12 digs. She was one of three players to record 10+ digs led by sophomore libero Tayli Ikenaga had a team-best 15 digs while junior pin hitter Kendra Ham came off the bench and filled her stat line with her second double-digit dig match (11) to go with three kills a block and a service ace.

The Toreros got off to a torrid start, leading by as many as 10 points early for a 12-2 lead. The 'Bows rallied on an 8-to-2 run on a pair of four-point scoring runs with Riley Wagoner and Igiede serving to trim their deficit to four points. UH kept fighting back and would trail by just two points at 17-15 with Alexander provided the power as she racked up five kills in UH's comeback bid. San Diego followed by reeling off five consecutive points for a 22-15 advantage and eventually finished the first set on an 8-to-3 run to capture Set 1, 25-18.

In the second set San Diego never trailed and led by as many as six points seven times early. Hawai'i however would rally and close to within two points at 21-19. USD answered by scoring three-straight to get to set point 24-20. UH staved off two set points, but a UH service error allowed the Toreros to win Set 2, 25-21.

After the Rainbow Wahine took a quick six points lead to start the third set 12-6, USD quickly erased their deficit and leapfrogged into the lead via an 11-to-3 run for a 17-15 lead. Hawai'i was able to knot the score at 21-21, but USD scored four of the last six points to complete the sweep with a 25-23 win in Set 3.

Grace Frohling led San Diego with 10 kills. Leyla Blackwell had a match-high nine blocks and six kills
