HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department hosted its annual "H Awards" at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Tuesday night, recognizing a multitude of student-athletes for their greatness on the playing field, in the classroom and out in the community.
 
The event made its welcome return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic as student-athletes, coaches and staff were able to celebrate the many achievements throughout the 2021-22 campaign.  

The night was headlined by the Jack Bonham Award going to men's tennis player Andre Iligan and women's basketball player Amy Atwell. The Bonham Award is given annually to the top male and female senior student-athlete who "best exemplifies the ideals for which Jack Bonham stood for in the areas of athletic excellence, academic achievement, public service, leadership and character."
 
Academically, Justin Lisoway of men's swimming and diving and Kylie McNamara of women's soccer were each presented the Jenny Matsuda Award, given to the student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade point averages. Lisoway holds a 4.0 GPA and will graduate with a double major in finance and economics. McNamara also sports a perfect 4.0 GPA and is set to graduate in 2023 with a degree in education. 

The Rookie of the Awards went to football's Brayden Schager and Momo Sugiyama of women's golf. The Athletes of the Year were Ilagan and two-sport athlete Brooke Van Sickle (indoor and beach volleyball). Ilagan was ranked as high as No. 11 nationally this season, the highest ranking ever for a UH men's tennis player. Meanwhile, Van Sickle earned All-America honors for UH's Rainbow Wahine volleyball team in the fall and is currently playing at an All-American level on the beach this spring.
