HONOLULU – Stanley Ching, longtime president of the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Booster Club, is the recipient of the 2021 Charlie Ushijima Award. Ching was honored during halftime of the men's basketball game, Saturday, Feb. 26.
 
The award is presented to an outstanding volunteer who has given his/her time to help further the University of Hawai'i Athletics Department and named after its first recipient, the late Charlie Ushijima.
 
Ching is an attorney and partner at Devens, Nakano, Saito, Lee, Wong and Ching and has served as the women's volleyball booster club president since 2007. He oversees the organization of post-game meals for the team, as well as its annual banquet, membership and fundraising drives, and producing a periodic club newsletter highlighting the student-athletes and their accomplishments on the court and in the classroom and community.
 
In addition, Ching served as the Rainbow Wahine Basketball Booster Club president from 2015-19 and continues to provide support to the team. He runs the social media accounts for both clubs and has worked to reconnect alumnae from both sports to the program via the booster club.
 
Ching is an avid fan of all University of Hawai'i sports teams and can be seen taking photos and cheering on student-athletes all across Lower Campus from the UH Tennis Complex to Rainbow Wahine Softball stadium and from the Duke Kahanamoku Pool to, of course, SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Ching also serves on the 'Ahahui Koa Ānuenue board of directors as the Booster Club Representative.
