Sawada Qualifies For Sony Open For Fourth Time

HONOLULU – For the second consecutive year and fourth time overall, former University of Hawai'i golfer Jared Sawada will compete in the Sony Open in Hawai'i. The Mililani, O'ahu native qualifed after earning one of four Monday qualifier spots at the Hoakalei Country Club.
 
Sawada finished in a three-way tie for fourth with a 2-under 70 and birdied the first playoff hole to earn the final qualifying spot. The former Rainbow Warrior (2008-12) also earned a Monday qualifying spot into last year's Sony Open, where he missed the cut by four strokes after rounds of 72 and 71.
 
Sawada earned his first Sony invitation in 2014 as a Governor's Cup amateur qualifier but missed the cut with a score of 10-over 140. He also qualified in 2017 and made the cut with rounds of 68 and 66 and finished in a tie for 69th place at 3-over 278.
 
This year's tournament runs Thursday, Jan. 9 through Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Wai'alae Country Club.
