HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i Athletics Director
David Matlin and head football coach
Nick Rolovich were honored at the 2019 Governor's Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation as well as the Mayor's SAAM Proclamation and City Council Certificate Ceremony for their work with the fight against sexual assault.
At both events earlier this month, Matlin and Rolovich were recognized as members of UH/Higher Education Community Action Team. Also honored on the day were community activists from organizations across the state nominated by the Department of Health's Sexual Violence Prevention Community Action Team.
Matlin has consistently supported efforts to help raise awareness around sexual violence prevention amongst athletes and staff alike. He's been instrumental in ensuring the department receives bystander intervention trainings through the PAU Violence Program. He plays a vital role in coordinating the athletics department's participation in the Honolulu Annual Men's March Against Violence.
Rolovich, with his team and staff, attend events that support and build understanding around sexual violence prevention. Rolovich and his staff also participate annually in the Men's March Against Violence. Throughout his time leading the football program, he has invited PAU Violence along with many other local agencies the opportunity to "talk story" with his players so they feel equipped to take on difficult challenges both on and off the field. Beyond trainings and events, Rolovich was involved in the Hawaiʻi Says No More campaign and initiated a UH violence prevention public service announcement that encouraged individuals to speak up for a safer campus and community.
