Last match...
It took a total team effort for the Rainbow Wahine to defeat UC Santa Barbara and the win brought out career performances from several players.
- Freshman outside hitter Hanna Hellvig recorded a career-high 19 kills while hitting .304 for the match. It marked the 17th time this season that she's had double-digit kills and has been the team's kill leader in 10 of the last 13 matches. Hellvig also added six digs, two assists and a block.
- Junior libero Rika Okino started slowly in the match recorded seven digs through the first three sets, but she finished strong, posting 12 digs in the fourth set alone and then added six more in the fifth set. She also added four assists on the night. It marked her sixth time with double-digit digs this season. It was the most digs since Tita Akiu had 34 digs against Baylor in the first round of last year's NCAA tournament.
- Senior setter/outside hitter Iosia finished the night one kill shy of a triple-double. She tallied a match-high 33 assists, 16 digs, nine kills, and four service aces. Iosia's six-point serving run in the fourth set allowed UH to pull away to capture Set 4 to force a fifth and deciding set. Her final service ace was a laser-shot that was a "walk-off ace" as it came at match-point. Iosia also recorded four kills in the fifth set to help propel UH to the win. She now has 58 career double-doubles. For Iosia, it marked her 14th double-double of the season and 58th of her career. She keeps rising in the UH career record books (No. 5 in service aces - 125; No. 9 in assists - 2,966; and No. 12 in digs - 1,086).
- Freshman middle blocker Amber Igiede recorded a career high three solo blocks and led UH with nine total blocks. She also posted a career-high 27 attempts on offense.
- Both Brooke Van Sickle and Riley Wagoner came in off the bench to help stabilize the 'Bows. Van Sickle came into the match in the third set and started the last three frames while Wagoner entered in the fourth set and started the fifth. Van Sickle ended with five kills, six digs, a block and a service ace. Wagoner, who pounded a kill upon entering the match in Set 4, put down two kills with two digs and she and Igiede ended the fourth set with a double-block.
- After leaving the match in the fourth, senior outside hitter McKenna Ross returned in the middle of the fifth set. She had three of her 10 kills in the fifth set alone--none bigger than the X-play that gave UH its first set point at 14-13. She finished the match with 10 kills and six digs. It is the sixth time this season that she's tallied double-digits in kills.
