No. 19 Women's Volleyball Sweeps At UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The No. 19 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (22-3, 12-2 Big West) swept UC Riverside on the road, 25-19, 25-11, 25-17 on Sunday afternoon at the SRC Arena in Riverside, Calif. Hawai'i won its ninth-straight match as senior McKenna Ross and freshman Hanna Hellvig lead UH with 11 kills apiece. With the win, Hawai'i remains in first place atop the Big West standings.
 
Ross recorded a career-high .688 hitting percentage with no errors in 16 swings. She also added five digs. She posted her eighth double-digit kill match of the season.
 
Hellvig marked her fourth-straight and 20th double-digit kill match of the season. Hellvig was also in on three blocks and had two digs.
 
Junior libero Rika Okino tallied her fourth-straight match with double-digit digs with a match-high 15.  She added four assists.
 
Senior setter/outside hitter Norene Iosia had a team-high 20 assists to go with eight digs, three blocks and three kills.
 
The first set was a see-saw battle that had 10 ties and five lead changes early on. But the 'Bows would pull away at the end and go on to take Set 1, 25-19.  Ross led the 'Bows with six kills while hitting .750 in the set with no errors in eight swings. UH out-hit the Highlanders in the first set, .282-to-.067.
 
The Rainbow Wahine cruised to a 25-11 Set 2 win. It tied the lowest score by an opponent this year (UCI first set on 10/4).
 
UC Riverside led UH, 5-2 early in Set 3. But the 'Bows quickly erased their deficit and tied it up at 5-5. The Highlanders and 'Bows had six ties and three lead changes in the third set. With UH holding a slim 15-14 lead, the 'Bows hit their stride with Bailey Choy serving four-straight points
 
UH had a 46-to-31 advantage in kills, a 7.0-to-5.0 edge in blocks, and had 43 assists to UCR's 30.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return home and will have their first bye week of the season. UH will then take on CSUN on Thursday, Nov. 21 and then Senior Night against Long Beach State on Friday, Nov. 22.
