The Rainbow Wahine defeated CSUN, 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 at the Matadome on Saturday night.
Olivia Magill buried a team-high 11 kills with four blocks while
Nikki Taylor tallied five of the 'Bows eight blocks while adding seven kills. Hawai'i improved to 22-1 overall and 12-0 in conference. It marked the first time since 2012 that UH won in the Matadome after falling the last two years to CSUN on the road.
Their 17-match win-streak is the longest since UH won 19-straight matches in 2012. CSUN fell to 5-19 overall and 4-8 in conference. Setters
Tayler Higgins and
Kendra Koelsch combined to lead a very balanced and efficient offensive attack. As a team, UH racked up a season-high .436 hitting percentage with a total of 43 kills on 78 attacks with just nine errors. Higgins dished out 21 assists and Koelsch contributed with 10 assists.
Magill finished the match with a .667 hitting percentage. She amassed her 11 kills on just 15 swings with only one error. Magill added four blocks to lead UH with 13.0 points for the match.
Tai Manu-Olevao had nine kills also with just one error on 14 swings for a .571 average. She also had four digs, a block and a service ace to fill her stat line.
In Set 1, the 'Bows cruised to a 25-14 win. CSUN led
7-5 early on before UH started a six point run to leapfrog the Matadors to take an 11-8 lead, most of which came on
Clare-Marie Anderson's run of six serves. CSUN never quite recovered from that swing as UH pulled away by winning five of the last six points.
Set 2 saw UH race out to a 10-3 lead on serving runs by Higgins, Manu-Olevao, and
Savanah Kahakai. The 'Bows maintained that lead for the rest of the set. UH won the set point as Manu-Olevao went off the block for the 25-17 win.
It was the opposite start for Hawai'i in Set 3 which saw CSUN jump out to a quick 5-1 lead, mostly off the serving of Kristey Markle. UH called timeout after the slow start, but CSUN maintained their lead to 8-3 before the 'Bows started to gain some traction. UH finally caught the Matadors at 12-12 on a solo block by Greeley. Manu-Olevao served four straight balls which led to a 14-13 lead. Late in the match, Higgins went on another serving spree, to extend their lead to 22-18. UH finished strong, winning six of the last seven points for a 25-19 win that secured their 13th sweep of the season.
CSUN's Cieana Stinson notched a match-high 13 kills and Kristey Markle had a match-high eight digs.
The Rainbow Wahine will return to Hawai'i on Sunday before playing their final four road matches in seven days to conclude their regular season slate.
