HONOLULU - Emily Hartong posted a match-high 13 kills, Nikki Taylor added six blocks and the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team overwhelmed Northwestern in straight sets, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19 on Friday night at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge.

Hawai'i (7-1)hit a scorching .451 for the match with Kalei Adolpho leading the way with a .667 attack percentage (6-0-9). Northwestern, who fell to 4-4 with the loss, hit at just a .042 clip.

Stephanie Holthus led the Wildcats with seven kills, seven digs, and three blocks and Caroline Niedospial added a team-best nine digs.

The first set was the Emily Hartong show as the outside hitter drilled seven kills to lead the 'Bows to an easy 25-12 win. UH grabbed an early 10-5 advantage that swelled to a 10-point lead off a Hartong kill, and Taylor posted a pair of block assists late in the set to seal the deal.

Set two featured another dominant win for the 'Bows. UH use an early 6-1 run to spearhead another quality set win and close in on the sweep. Northwestern hung around in the set before the 'Bows went on a 7-3 run and raced to the two-set leading heading to intermission.

UH captured set three in the same convincing fashion. Block assists by Taylor and Kristiana Tuaniga (3 kills, 2 blks) helped give the 'Bows an early 8-3 lead but Northwestern remained in striking distance when a Maggie Burnham (5 kills) kill cut UH's lead to 13-10. Hawai'i regained the momentum and pushed the lead back up to seven points before cruising to the win.

The Rainbow Wahine will look to make it another tournament sweep when they face Arizona on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Portland State and Northwestern will play the early match of the evening at 4:30 p.m.
