UH Ranks 66th Of 279 Schools Nationally In Final Directors' Cup Standings

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department finished ranked 66th out of 279 Division I schools nationally in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings with a total of 314 points. UH earned 98 points during the fall sports season, 74.5 points in the winter and 141.5 during the spring season.
 
The Directors' Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Learfield Sports and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and the NAIA. The 2008-09 winners were announced and awarded their Directors' Cups at NACDA's 44th Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida. The winning institutions were Stanford in Division I, Grand Valley State (Mich.) in Division II, Williams (Mass.) in Division III and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) in the NAIA.
 
UH is the second highest-ranked Western Athletic Conference school, behind Boise State, who finished 49th in the standings.
 
Since 1993, UH's highest final ranking was 53rd, accomplished last year with 385 points.
 
To start the year, UH scored points in volleyball and football during the fall season. Volleyball finished 5th and earned 73 points, while football finished ranked 46th and earned 25 points.
 
During the winter sports season, the women's swimming and diving team finished 29th nationally and received 44.5 points. Women's indoor track and field ranked 44th and received 30 points.
 
Wrapping up the year, UH scored points in women's water polo, women's outdoor track and field and men's tennis during the spring season. Women's water polo finished 4th and earned 55 points. Men's tennis finished 17th and earned 50 points, while women's outdoor track and field placed 36th and scored 36.5 points.
