No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Advance To Finals Of WAC Tournament

LAS VEGAS – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Fresno State 25-15, 25-15, 25-17 Tuesday night in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
The No. 1 seed Rainbow Wahine advance to the finals of the WAC Tournament on Wednesday night, where they will face No. 2 seed New Mexico State at 6:30 p.m. PT on ESPNU. UH improves to 27-2 overall and have won 23-straight matches.
 
Offensively Tuesday night, Kanani Danielson had a match-high 12 kills and hit .417, adding six digs and four assists.
 
Aneli Cubi-Otineru had 11 kills and hit .625, adding six digs, three blocks and two aces. Stephanie Ferrell had nine kills and two blocks and Brittany Hewitt added five kills and five blocks.
 
Dani Mafua set the offense with 33 assists as UH hit .390 for the match. Mafua added three kills, seven digs and two blocks. Amber Kaufman added four kills.
 
In the first set, UH jumped in front 10-4 and never looked back, winning 25-15. Ferrell led the way with four kills and Cubi-Otineru added three kills, hitting .400. Kaufman, Hewitt, Danielson and Mafua each added two kills, as Mafua had 10 assists and led UH to a .355 hitting percentage. Hewitt added three blocks and Danielson had four digs.
 
The Rainbow Wahine pulled away from the pulled in the second set, winning 25-15. Cubi-Otineru led the way with four kills in the set, while Hewitt and Danielson added three kills. Ferrell had two kills and Elizabeth Ka'aihue had five digs.
 
UH hit .519 in the third set and won 25-17. Danielson had seven kills and Cubi-Otineru added four kills. Mafua had 14 assists and UH had 3.5 team blocks.
 
In the first semifinal match of the night, No. 2 seed New Mexico State beat No. 6 Boise State in straight sets 25-16, 26-24, 25-10. New Mexico State was led by Kayleigh Giddens, who had 13 kills and Erin Birmingham and Kelsey Brennan each added two kills.
