No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Begin Road Trip With Victory Over Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opened its three-match road trip with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 sweep over Boise State on Thursday night at Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho.
 
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 24-2 overall and 14-0 in WAC play. The win clinches UH's 14th straight WAC championship, earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
 
Sophomore Stephanie Ferrell led the offensive attack Thursday night, recording a match-high 11 kills. Overall UH hit .344 for the match and had 8.5 blocks.
 
Amber Kaufman, Aneli Cubi-Otineru and Alexis Forsythe each had seven kills and Kanani Danielson added five kills and 11 digs. Dani Mafua set the offense with 31 assists, 10 digs and five blocks.
 
Kaufman hit .538 for the match, adding five blocks and three aces and Cubi-Otineru had four blocks.
 
In the first set, UH took an early 5-1 lead and went on to win the set 25-16. Cubi-Otineru led the offense with four kills and added three blocks and two digs. Ferrell had three kills and Kaufman, Danielson and Forsythe each had two kills. UH hit .393 in the set and held Boise State to a .080 hitting percentage.
 
The Rainbow Wahine continued to block well in the second set and won 25-14. Ferrell had three kills and Cubi-Otineru and Forsythe each added two kills. UH had three blocks in the set and held Boise State to a .027 hitting percentage.
 
UH pulled away from Boise State midway through the third set, leading to a 25-16 victory. Ferrell had five kills in the set and Kaufman added four kills. Danielson and Forsythe each added three kills. UH hit .400 in the third set and had two team blocks.
 
UH plays the second match of the road trip Saturday night against Idaho at 7 p.m. PT in Moscow, Idaho.
