Kaufman Makes It 10 NCAA Regional Qualifiers For UH Track

IRVINE, Calif. - The second day of the Steve Scott Invitational produced another NCAA Regional qualifier for the University of Hawai'i women's track and field team. Two-sport athlete Amber Kaufman became the 10th Rainbow Wahine to make regional standard with a qualifying mark in the high jump Sunday at Anteater Stadium.

Kaufman, a starter on UH's nationally ranked volleyball team, placed second and was the meet's top collegiate finisher with a leap of 5-8.75 (1.75m). She led a UH contingent which also featured Emily Sheppard (5-7/1.70m) and Annett Wichmann (5-7/1.70m), who placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the discus competition, sophomore Alana Faagai made standard for the second time this season with a heave of 156-7 (47.72m), enough for second place.

During the two-day meet, a total of three Rainbow Wahine posted NCAA Regional marks. On Saturday, Wichmann reached standard in the javelin.

So far this season, the Rainbow Wahine have qualified a school-record 10 athletes to the regional meet in Northridge, Calif., later this month. The previous record was seven set last season.

UH returns to Honolulu to host the sixth and final Sunset Meet at Cooke Field, Saturday, May 10.
