IRVINE, Calif. - University of Hawai'i women's track and field athlete
Annett Wichmann posted a huge personal best in the javelin competition on the first day of the Steve Scott Invitational Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
Wichmann's throw of 156-1 (47.57m) was enough to win the event and surpass her previous best by nearly six feet. It also marks the second time this season that Wichmann has made NCAA Regional standard in the event.
So far this season, a school-record nine UH athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Regionals in Northridge, Calif. UH's previous best was seven qualifiers, which they sent to last year's regionals in Eugene, Ore.
Other Rainbow Wahine qualifying for the regionals this season are pole vaulters Jessica Custance, Patricia Gauthier, and Samantha Weaver, discus throwers Alana Faagai and Brittani Daniels, Thalia Amanakis in the 400-meter hurdles, Emily Sheppard in the high jump, and Meghan Weaver in the shot put.
The rest of the Rainbow Wahine will be in action on Sunday on the second day of the Steve Scott Invite.
