STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's track and field team competed on the first day of the Stanford Invitational Friday at the Cobb Track and Angel Field. The Rainbow Wahine posted two NCAA Regional qualifying marks and had other solid performances.
Pole vaulter Samantha Weaver won the "B" flight with a regional qualifying leap of 12-7.5 (3.85m). Senior Emily Sheppard placed second in the high jump finals with a regional standard 5-8.75 (1.75m) It marks the second time this season that both Weaver and Sheppard made standard in their respective events.
Sophomore Alana Faagai narrowly missed out on qualifying for regionals in the discus after a heave of 154-3 (47.02m). Teammates Meghan Weaver and Brittani Daniels placed fifth and seventh with marks of 145-9 (44.42m) and 141-4 (43.08m), respectively.
Junior Ava Cavaco had a top 10 showing in the "B" hammer finals with a throw of 150-5 (45.86m).
Annett Wichmann made her outdoor season debut competing in the top section of both the high jump and javelin events. The Jena, Germany native placed fourth in the high jump after clearing 5-7 (1.70m) and took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 141-6 (43.14m).
The two-day Stanford Invite concludes on Saturday with a full-day of competition.
